Construction Begins on Tomball Highway

Construction is now underway to widen Texas Highway 249 in Tomball.  New toll lanes will be added in hopes that it will relieve congestion on the highway.  The construction will come in two phases, at a total cost of $425 million.  The first phase begins at Spring-Cypress Road and goes to Northpointe Boulevard.  The second phase will continue to Waller-Tomball Road.

The project is being undertaken in response to massive population growth in Houston and surrounding areas.  As a recent study by Allstate Insurance Company showed, the greater the congestion on the road, the higher the number of accidents.  The study revealed that numerous over-congested suburbs of Dallas where people undertake daily commutes have the highest rates of accidents.  Hopefully this situation will be avoided in the suburbs of Houston.
