Driver Smashes Into Accident Scene on Interstate 10

On the night of Sunday September 29, a motorcyclist became stranded on the shoulder of west-bound Interstate 10 near Beltway 8 East in Houston.  A driver stopped to help the motorcyclist, but unfortunately another driver lost control of his car, and crashed into the accident scene.  The parked trailer that the driver hit ran into the good Samaritan, sending him over the dividing wall of the highway and into oncoming eastbound traffic on the other side of the highway.

The injured man was taken by Life Flight to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Having a car or motorcycle break down on the side of the highway is an all-t00-common scenario.  What can you do to keep yourself and those helping you safe?

  • Park as far into the shoulder and off the highway as possible
  • Turn on flashing lights to make your car visible.  This will help ensure that the cars traveling towards you can see you.
  • Exit the vehicle from the passenger side only.  Exiting from the drivers’ side can lead to serious injuries or even death.
  • Contact law enforcement to get help as soon as possible
