Houston Police Officer Struck by His Own Patrol Car After Responding to Accident

Houston Police Officer Hit By Car

A situation feared by many police offers happened early Friday morning.  A Houston police officer was hit by a car on the 59/Eastex Freeway.  The injured Police Officer, Miguel Rosario, a 19-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, had stopped to check on a minor accident involving two vehicles near the Beltway in Houston.

At the scene of the accident there was debris, including a bumper, which the officer felt, posed a safety hazard on 59.  In exercising his duty to protect public safety, Officer Rosario went to retrieve the bumper when a vehicle crashed into the back of his patrol car and pushed the car into him, according to the Houston Police Department

Officer Rosario was rushed to Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute by ambulance where he is being treated for various injuries including broken bones and the loss of several teeth. He is reported to be in fair condition.

At this time of publication, there is no news as to whether the driver who hit him will be cited.
